What is the Student Council?

At Unionville High School, the Student Council is an energetic group of students that take initiative to become active leaders within the school. Our council collaborates to organize school events with the opinions, ideas and interests of the student body. Our main objective is to gather and represent the voice of the student body to create a more enjoyable high school experience for all.

Mission Statement

This year York Region District School Board continues to focus on engaging students’ learning with technology and to support positive mental health. Unionville Students’ Activities Council (USAC) believes that by creating a spirited community integrated with the proper use of technology, it will promote positive mental health and technological interaction. USAC believes that the student life plays an extremely crucial role in their education, and aims to create an environment where students feel comfortable and safe, allowing them to expand to new horizons of their education.

Unionville Students’ Activities Council (USAC) for the 2019-2020 school year plans to create a spirited and engaged school community through the use of technology, running school wide events, and workshops. By the end of the year, USAC hopes that the student body has become more enthusiastic, inclusive and unified.

Structure

Our student council is further organized into different groups to help expand our reach for different interests within students at UHS. These subdivisions are the, Athletic, Arts, Social Justice and Community Council.

Get Involved

Students can attend any of the four major subdivision council meetings if they have interests towards fostering school spirit, planning events or learning leadership qualities. In addition, student council meetings are open for any students to come to share their ideas or opinions on what they would like to see happen in the school.

When Does Student Council Meet?

Student council has 4 major sub-councils and two additional side-councils. Here are the scheduled meeting dates:

  • Athletic Council: Varies, see Mr. Ricci in Phys. Ed. for more information
  • Arts Council: Monday after school (Rm 212)
  • Social Justice Council: Tuesday after school (Room 346)
  • Community Council: Thursday after school (Rm 216)
  • Environmental Council: Thursday after school (Rm 354)
  • Wellness Council: Tuesday after school (Rm 240)

Elections

Elections are held during the end of May where students can apply for a position on Student Council. Eligibility for positions will be based on whether the student shows interest, active commitment and involvement in either Student Council or a specific subcommittee of Student Council.

Events

Throughout the year, we have organized many events such as Grade 9 Camp Day, Terry Fox Run, Games/Movie Night, Autumnfest and many more. They were all a huge success! Everyone looked to be having a blast and came out to support a great cause.

We have already begun planning for our upcoming events: Our annual Semi-Formal Dance, Mayfair, and various spirit weeks!

On behalf of Student Council, we look forward to seeing you or your child involved in extracurricular activities within the school that are not limited to those put on by Student Council, but extend to include clubs, sports teams or participating in events. We know there is something out there for everybody in high school and we look forward to creating a comfortable environment for your child and ensuring they are excited each and every day to come to school.

Don’t hesitate to approach us in the halls, say hi or dropping by the USAC Office with any questions or ideas!

Sincerely,

USAC
