Earlier this semester, we shared an important safety update regarding traffic and student drop-off procedures around Unionville High School. Unfortunately, we continue to observe extremely unsafe drop-off behaviors along Apple Creek Boulevard, particularly near the east side of Warden Avenue.
We are still seeing vehicles stopping directly in the middle of the live traffic lanes on Apple Creek Blvd to let students out of the car, after which, students are running across active traffic lanes of oncoming cars to reach the school parking lot.
This is an extraordinary safety hazard. Unloading passengers in active traffic lanes creates severe visibility blind spots, leaves zero room for driver error, and places your child in direct risk of being struck by a vehicle. It is also a direct violation of municipal traffic laws.
We appreciate you strictly adhering to the following expectations during morning drop-off:
- Never Unload in Live Traffic: Do not stop in the middle of Apple Creek Boulevard or surrounding public roadways to let students out under any circumstances.
- Use Official Drop-Off Zones: Unload students exclusively within the designated school driveway and drop-off loops on school property.
- Obey Posted Signs: Respect all "No Stopping" and "No Parking" zones along the school perimeter. By-law enforcement and local police have been notified and are actively monitoring the area.
- Use Designated Crosswalks: If dropping your child off on a nearby legal side street, ensure they walk to a marked crosswalk or signalized intersection rather than jaywalking across busy traffic.
We understand that morning commutes can be rushed and congested. However, a few saved minutes are never worth risking a student's life. Please budget a few extra minutes into your morning routine to use the designated drop-off lines safely.
Thank you for your immediate cooperation and commitment to keeping every student safe.
