High-Performance Athlete (HPA) Program Information, Application Process and Renewal for Students currently participating in HPA
The HPA program is an option for students competing at the provincial, national and/or international level in eligible sports. It is designed to provide high performing student-athletes with timetable support to enable them to attend their regular training and compete during times that would typically conflict with otherwise-regular academic programming.
Student-athletes who compete at the provincial, national, or international level in a qualifying sport may be eligible to enroll in up to two Day School Online Courses during the school year.
Who is it for?
Students in Grades 9 to 12 may apply to be considered as a HPA student. The requirements for consideration for the HPA Program are:
- Student-athletes must attend their regular training and compete during times that would typically conflict with otherwise-regular academic programming.
- The student-athlete must be competing in a qualifying sport* at the provincial, national or international level.
- Training must be under the supervision of a certified coach (not a parent/guardian).
- The number of hours of training is a minimum of 15 hours per week.
- Completion of required documents:
- The student-athlete must reapply for the program on a yearly basis using the High Performance Athlete Program Renewal Form.
For more information about qualifying sports, students are asked to schedule an appointment with their alpha Guidance Counsellor. Applications are due to the Guidance office no later than January 16 2026
PLEASE NOTE: Participation in the HPA program (past or present) makes a student ineligible to join the school team for the specific sport associated with the program.
